Ingredients
- 285 g plain raising flour
- 200 g butter
- 140 g soft brown sugar
- 250 g dried dates
- 2 green apples, peeled, cored and chopped
- 140 g rolled oats
Method
- Preheat the oven to 190°C. Line a 28 cm X 18 cm cake tin with baking paper.
- Put the dates, apples and 4 tbsp water in a small pan. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes until the fruit is mushy.
- Turn into a bowl and leave to cool for 15 minutes.
- Put the flour and oats in a large bowl. Rub the butter into the flour, then stir in the sugar. Sprinkle on 2 tbsp water.
- Put half the mixture into the tin and press down firmly with the back of a spoon. Spread the date and apple mixture on totop, then srinkle the rest of the oats. Press down lightly.
- Bake for 30 minutes. Leave in the tin to cool, then remove and cut into slices.
