Chocolate Caramel Squares

Makes 16

Ingredients

  • 125 g plain chocolate
  • 250 g butter
  • 50 g ground rice
  • 100 g caster sugar
  • 125 g plain flour
  • 196 g can condensed milk
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup
  • 2 tbsp milk

Method

  1. Mix half the butter and half the sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the flour and rice and stir until it all binds together. Knead until smooth.
  2. Roll out onto a square and press evenly into a shallow 20 cm saquare tin. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 30 minutes. Leave to cool in the tin.
  3. Gently heat the golden syrup, condensed milk and the remaining sugar and butter in a pan.
  4. Heat until golden, then spread over the biscuit mixture. Leave to set.
  5. Place the chocolate ans milk in a small pan and heat until melted. Spread over the biscuit and leave to set.
  6. Cut into squares and serve.
